International SURFING Day 2009!
Team Marko posted up today at Magnolia street for the 5th annual Huntington Beach Surfrider Foundation celebration of International SURFING Day. The weather was a bit gloomy but that didn't really matter as people of all colors, shapes, ages, and sizes came out to celebrate (good times come-on...!) our wonderful sport of SURFING. Among all the celebs at the event, Mob Rochado stopped on by to say hi, and amp out on his new 100% recycled EPS ENVIROfoam Catalina Islands board. Other than that, we had a bitchin' time getting free back-massages, food, magazines, t-shirts, and diamond rings. Our buddies over at FOAM EZ also came over to interview our very own Bruce Lee and ask him a few questions about the ENVIROfoam blanks. We were honored to be among the invitees at this year's event and look forward to participating again in the years to come. Psyched...!

Yoki Time!
We got to hang out with Scott, Jeff, and the Yokoyama Generic Youth crew today. Jeff had a sweet Cordell shaped I-foam board lying around. Looks like the thing had been ridden quite a few times! And its still going strong... Rock on!!!

Dano the Mano
We stopped by Dano's shape bay to catch up and talk about The Blossoming of the White Lotus art and surfboard show he put on last week. Marko's ENVIROfoam made a special appearance in the shape of a retro fish with green keels and a green stringer. We're stoked on how the board came out and all the positive feedback on our 100% recycled surfboard core. Yeeehaaa...! Ya Dano...!

BeastMaster Paddle Board...
Our local buddy Gary cruised into Marko today to check out his 12 foot beastmaster paddle board foam blank. He's been coming in periodically to work on CAD-designing these things with our Marko mad-scientist engineer. We're lookin' forward to seeing this slab of (non-toxic) EPS foam finish shaped, glassed, and ready to hit the water. Rumor has it, these things are going to be faster than those speedboats you see out at Havasu...

Cordell on Polyurethane Blanks
We caught up with Cordell Miller the other day and picked his brain on board design, quality, and production. He told us that he rode his "polys today and they just felt so dead." Not only is Cordy a great shaper, but he is also an insane surfer. Its hard to come by someone who can own it at both. We're amped that he's on board the Marko team and R&D-ing the heck out of our blanks! Thanks Cordy!

Green In Our Bloodstream
Why bother with coffee in the mornin' when you can have HANSEN'S ENERGY DRINK!!! We've been amping and ramping off of these green goodies... Nothing beats a freshy when your energy levels are runnin' lowww. Our Marko staff pounded through two 24 packs the last two weeks. To top things off, we have quite the collection of aluminum cans here in the office. We don't just drink them, but we also recycle these bad boyz. And no, we ain't tree huggers... Recycling is simple, it's logical, and it's green... Viva la Pura Verde!

Cordy Punishing our little secret spot "Lowers"
Local shaper Cordell Miller, riding a Marko I-foam, is showing everyone how to punish secret spots like "Lowers." His wonderfully crafted stick mixed in with his talent, knowledge, and magic of this I-foam blank was caught by Shawn Parkin mid turn on this little nugget of a left.

Shaun Tomson annihilating it!
South Africa's Shaun Tomson still has it! The 1977 world champ has been going bonkers with this Jeff Johnston magic carpet. Jeff has been a longtime shaper out of Hawaii and a huge supporter of Marko Foam. We're really honored to have such iconic figures in surfing's history on our very own EPS blanks.

FiberFlex your Lyfe!
Fresh off the plane from the land down under, Hayden Cox went strait into the shaping bay this week to crank out heaps and heaps of FiberFlex boards. The technology is incredible. We checked out a board he's been riding for over 6 months and the thing still looks brand new. These things are going to blow up...!

Warehouse Visit
Currently healing a broken femur, Stretch's Nathan Fletcher stopped by Marko's Costa Mesa boat house to give us a sneak peak of his new surf flick coming out in the fall. We offered him some new ENVIROfoam blanks to take home and shape. Psyched on what these guys are going to look like when they are done!

Sacred Craft Sweetness
This last weekend the Marko Foam team cruised up to Ventura for the Sacred Craft Tradeshow put on by veteran board enthusiast Mr. Scott Bass. Board shapers, board collectors, industry mogels, old hippies, and new surf groms from up and down the coast came out of the woodwork to catch a glimpse of the latest in surfboard technology. Among all the shapers, Danny Hess, Fletcher Chouinard, and Gerry Lopez cruised on by to rap out about our push on ENVIROfoam which features a 100% recycled EPS content. We were stoked to hear all the positive feedback on Marko's efforts towards environmental sustainability in the surfboard manufacturing industry.
